Music

Music has always been a big part of my life. It makes me happy, sad, mad, and it just expresses all my feelings that I can never talk about. When I was 15-years-old I started promoting bands off of Myspace. That’s when I realized that I wanted to help people through music.  It brings so many people together and it just feels like you are in a different world. Throughout high school I knew I didn’t want to go to college. I wanted to start my own record label company and help bands. I thought it’d be a good idea to start connecting with bands on Myspace. Most people thought I was a joke. It was hard to get people to take me seriously cause I was a 15-year-old fan girl. People called me a groupie and laughed in my face when I told them what I wanted to do. I honestly didn’t care what people had to say because that pushed me harder and harder everyday to want to prove people wrong. The hardest part was that I had no one to talk to or guide me through the music industry. No one understood how the music industry worked. I had to learn and experience it myself. You will get rejected a lot but if you really want something to happen you will NOT take NO for an answer. When I was 18, I graduated high school and got to experience the best thing in the world. I was a tour manager for a band on Vans Warped Tour ’11. I ran into a few bumps and I left the tour early. I don’t regret it at all because I met and became friends with a lot of great people. It was nice to see how a lot of things worked in the music industry. It was one of the best decisions I’ve made. When I got off tour I moved to Sacramento, CA to help my family. I thought that since I was in a bigger city it’d be easier to grow in the music industry but I was wrong. It wasn’t any different then living in any other city. The music industry is tough to get into. I got to know a few bands and even tried to help promote and book them shows. That’s when I realized that booking a small band was rough. My dreams of starting a record label company changed. I decided that I wanted to open a venue to help bring artists here. That is one of my major goals I’m working on right now. Today, I continue to grow and connect with so many talented artists. Music has brought my sister and I a lot closer. I think that music is a powerful thing because it speaks for a lot of us. I want to help people through it and that’s why I wanted to share a little part of my experience in the music industry.

“Music can change the world because it can change people.”
